Our group decided to watch a series of horror/ thriller movies, in which we learnt that many films of this genre tend to be remakes of Japanese or Korean based movies, which are transformed to attract different consumers of different cultures. We came across the "The Grudge" which was indeed a remake to the original Japanese horror film "Ju- on: The Grudge", our group viewed the title sequence and were encouraged to use some of the same techniques for our own thriller. Firstly, our group liked the whole idea of using some quotes/ phrases in the beginning of our thriller, which builds up the tension and adds to the suspense. Viewers are ultimately trying to guess to what extent do these quotes/phrases mean? Also, the quotes/ phrases end up fading out leaving one formidable word and changing into red. I believe using this technique will be a great idea, making our thriller much more intense.
After viewing many films of the same genre we have come to discover that many of the openings always depict what is going to happen in the rest of the movie, this is what our group will use in order for us to sustain a jaw dropping thriller movie. Moreover, we have also come to learn that many of the victims in the opening are always individuals with working class jobs; in The Grudge we see a maid being the first victim to the antagonist. One of our plans for our thriller is to use a janitor as our victim, who is alone at night closing up the school in which our villain will then murder him. Furthermore, many horror/ thriller movies tend to be using little girls as their villain, because a little girl is a symbol of vulnerability and innocence you wouldn't expect them to be killing anyone, thus heightening the shock of the audience. Taking from this, our group could also use a small manipulative girl as our antagonist.
