Genre and Sub-Genre of thrillers.

A Genre is a category, in this case, of a film. Genres can be catagorised by their style, form and subject matter. Whereas a sub-genre is a genre within a genre, sub-genres are more specific that genres. The Genre that we are taking inspiration from is Thriller, however within the thriller Genre there are many sub genres. In short, if it 'thrills' it is known as a thriller.

Action thrillers: Thriller films in which the hero or heroine must confront dangerous situations, generally in a suspenseful and/or violent manner. An example of an action thriller is 'Taken'.

Conspiracy thrillers: In a conspiracy thriller, the hero of the film confronts a powerful group or enemy whose true extent is only realised by the hero. 'Snake Eyes' is an example or a Conspiracy thriller

Crime thrillers: These are hybrids of the crime and thriller genre, they show a suspenseful account of a crime and often focus on the criminal/criminal organisation. Topics of Crime thrillers include murders, robberies, shootouts, heists and serial killers. Seven is an example.

Erotic thrillers: These are also hybrids of erotica and thriller, they became popular in the 80's, and example is 'Dressed to Kill'.

Legal thrillers:  This type of thriller consist of a hero confronting enemies outside and well as inside he courtroom, they are in danger of loosing both their cases and lives. 'A to Kill' is an example of a Legal Thriller.

Political thrillers:  The hero must maintain the stability of the government which employs him. An example is 'Notorious'

Psychological thrillers: This genre shows a conflict between the main character mentally and emotionally. Characters are put into a dangerous situation which they are not prepared to solve. They become reliant on their own mental resources whether its beating an opponent or battling for an equilibrium in their own mind. Psychological thrillers normally include many mind games and a twist to the plot, 'Shutter island' is an example.

Supernatural thrillers: These films are filled with tension, suspense and plot twists, often some of the main characters maube have a psychic ability. An example is 'Unbreakable'

Most thrillers are formed in a combination of the above, however many are formed with other genres such as horror, espionage, science fiction and adventure.
