Oriental Horror - Female Characters.

Taking inspiration from oriental horror films, quite often have a female character whose hair covers their face. Often the character wears a white dress which symbols the characters previous innocence or purity before the 'curse'. The characters unseen face is something to fear, as more commonly their face is distorted or scary, the viewer will see very little of the characters face.

Here are some examples from Ringu, Ju-on: The Grudge, Chakushin Ari Final.

We can take inspiration from this by having a female character dressed in white, she may drape her hair over her face to create the oriental fear. Black eye liner around her outer eye corners and lower lash line can also be used.

  1. An interesting blog - I look forward to seeing the results! I think that the director of The Ring may have borrowed the idea from this a film called Mirror by Andrei Tarkovsky - you can see the sequence here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ePQ5VY87Sw&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLFCAA2243446A951F

It's a very weird (and very good) Russian experimental film.

Here's the image I'm refering to:
